We hope everyone had a great break!
This week we will introduce the December book project. This project will be due Dec. 17. Please have your student let us know if they need us to provide them with materials for wrapping their items.
In reading we will also be focusing on determining the theme. We will do this by practicing with multiple examples from passages, videos, books, songs, etc.
In writing, we will begin working on researching and note taking. This will help us to be successful with our Ecosystems project in science as well as the short research paper they will be writing starting next week.
In science, we will continue learning about ecosystems and the relationships in them. We will get into decomposers, producers, and food chains this week. We will also continue working on our ecosystems throughout the week. We will have laptops for research and I will also provide materials for them to begin working on their ecosystems. They are welcome to bring their box and other materials from home to work on in class.
In math this week, we will have a quiz on Tuesday. We will then continue with multiplication and estimating products.
In spelling, the students will get a new list on Monday that will be tested over on Friday.
Reminder: Character trait assembly is Tuesday, December 1, at 2:00.

November 23-24
Welcome to our very short week!
This week will consist a lot of presentations. Our "How to" projects in writing will be presented today and tomorrow as well as our book projects in reading.
In science we will choose ecosystems today and begin researching them. The students will have time to work on their ecosystems projects in class so hopefully if there are questions, we will be able to answer them at that time.
In spelling, we will continue working on preparing for the spelling bee. The spelling bee is Tuesday at 2:00 in individual classrooms. Parents are welcome!
Please help them to remember to bring back their signed progress reports!

Reminders:
Mid-Term progress reports go home this Friday. 1/2 AR goal is due Thursday.
Spelling Bee: Parents are welcome to come enjoy the spelling bee in your child's classroom at 2:00 on 11/24 (Tuesday) We will be sending home another copy of these words and working on spelling them in spelling bee structure all week.
In Reading this week, we are continuing to practice reading nonfiction text by reading Pilgrims. We will do activities with every chapter to help us understand the reading and nonfiction text features.
In Writing this week, we will continue drafting, editing and revising our How to pieces. The presentations for these pieces will be next Monday and Tuesday. Your student needs to come completely prepared with all materials on their presentation date.
In math this week, we will begin moving toward multiplying two multi-digit numbers. We are learning multiple strategies for accomplishing the task of multiplication. However, if students don't have a grasp on basic multiplication facts, they may struggle. Continuing to work on those facts will help them be successful in math.
In Social Studies, we will finish up our unit on the First People of Missouri on Wednesday with a test. Students will have 15 minutes to use their packets on the test.
On Thursday, we will begin our new science unit on Ecosystems. There will not be a test over this unit, but a project. Each student will create an ecosystem and research it to include relevant living and nonliving things. They will get information on this project Thursday to bring home.

Tape Teacher PTO Fundraiser
The Tape a Teacher Fundraiser that PTO is sponsoring is going on this week. Students have the opportunity to bring in money to place a chance for the teacher they would most like to see taped to a wall at our December Assembly. Each chance is $1. This should be fun!

Wednesday, Nov. 11th, we are having our Veterans Day assembly. There is also a noon dismissal this day.
In writing this week, we will begin working on our How To drafts as well as learning several comma rules. Our How To presentations will take place on November 23-24.
In Reading this week we will continue learning about non-fiction text structures. This should help your child prepare for their book projects as we continue learning how to read and understand non-fiction texts. Book projects are due Nov. 23rd, AR tests for the book they've chosen need to be taken and PASSED by Nov. 18th.
In math this week we will continue practicing our rounding and estimating skills. We will apply these to word problems and build on these skills throughout the week.
In spelling we will get a new spelling list today (Monday) and have a spelling test this Friday.

This week in reading we will begin working with non-fiction text. We will introduce our new book project for November. This project will be done over a non-fiction book. Your child will come home today (Monday) with the information for this. Book selection and approval is due this Friday.
In writing this week, we will begin working on writing expositions. We will learn transition words and different organizational patterns for creating this type of text. In November, the students will be writing "How to" papers and presenting/demonstrating their final papers. To be successful with this, we will first go over organizing this type of text before we begin drafting.
In Social Studies this week we will begin studying the first people of Missouri. This will tie into our Thanksgiving discussions as well as non-fiction texts. We will compare primary and secondary resources throughout this unit when looking at information presented in multiple ways.
In spelling this week we will start with a new list on Monday. The spelling test will be Friday. This word list focuses heavily on root words and the suffix -ible and -able.
