August 28- Sept 1

It is homecoming week!  This week we will demonstrate our school pride by dressing up each day.
Monday: Hat day
Tuesday: Dress like your favorite teacher
Wednesday: Pajama Day
Thursday: Rockstar Day
Friday: Dragon Pride- red and green

On Friday, we will be busing students to the parade.  Those not participating in the parade will be able to enjoy the parade from the sidelines and retrieve candy for home and our classes.  We hope to see you there!

This week's studies include:

Math: We will continue to work on place value, ordering and comparing numbers, and a review of all on Friday.

Spelling: We have our first spelling test this week!  We will test on Friday morning!  Check your child's folder for the list.

Social Studies: This week, we are learning about Missouri's geography and symbols.  There will be a geography test next Friday, and a fact test next Thursday.  Your child has a study packet they are asked to bring back and forth from school to home to be working on these skills.

Writing:  We are still developing our student's writing stamina and their writer's notebooks.  We are helping them find the many things that they have to write about.

Reading: This week, we are pushing students to work on their discussion skills with their peers.  We are trying to lead them in to peer led discussions about the books we read in class, and how to think deeper about what we read.  Please remember to have your child read a bit each night of their own books.  Maybe try having a conversation with them about what they have read!

Our PBS skill this week is to follow the Golden Rule and what that looks like in our classrooms.

August 22-25

Welcome back!  We hope that all are enjoying a smooth transition into the new school year.  Our blog posts will usually be on the first day the school week..it just took us a day to remember!  The Eclipse had us all excited, and we heard about some great learning experiences.  So here is our week at a glance!

This week in math, we will be using the time in class to get to know where our students are at in the area of place value.  We will begin lessons on Friday.

In writing, we will be setting up our writer's notebooks, and working on launching them.

In reading, we are working on determining your child's reading level, and finding out who they are as readers.

Social Studies this week involves a closer look at our Dragon Pledge and the Pledge of Allegiance that we recite every morning.  We hope that students use this time to really keep in mind what the words they are saying each day mean.

We don't have a spelling list this week, but keep a look out for the words weekly on the right hand margin of this blog.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns with any policies that we have.

As a reminder, please make any transportation changes in the office before 2:30.  Thank you in advance.
