August 24-28

Happy Monday!

This week we will be getting much more into our content. In Reading, we will be learning how to complete our literature circle jobs and how to facilitate a good book discussion. These skills will be important to learn before we begin having our literature circle meetings.

In writing, we will be learning about the parts of speech and brainstorming examples of each. We will also be doing daily editing of sentences to help work on our conventions throughout the week.

In math we are focusing on place value and comparing numbers this week. We will have our first homework assignments in math this week! We will be playing a lot of games, doing work in our teams, and some hands on activities to learn and master these concepts.

In Social Studies, we are going to do a quick unit on Missouri's facts, maps, and symbols. We will quiz over the facts and symbols Thursday after a quick review in class. On Friday, we will test their knowledge of the map of Missouri by having them recreate the map with cookie dough and icing!

We will also be finishing up our STAR assessment for math on the computer this week. This gives us good baseline reading and math scores that we can use to sit down with each student and set goals.

Have a great week!
