January 4-8

Welcome back! Sorry for the late post, it's always hard to get back in the routine!
We hope everyone had a great break!

This week in writing we are discussing how to use strong word choice in our writing. We are moving into discussing figurative language and creating poetry using these concepts.

In reading, we are beginning to close read poetry. When we close read, we read the same piece multiple times so that we are able to better analyze and understand the piece.

In spelling this week, we have a review list of words. Since there is not a new rule to learn, the test for spelling will be Thursday instead of Friday.

For Social Studies, we are beginning a unit on the European settlement of Missouri. We will discuss the exploration of Missouri and Lewis and Clark.

In math this week we will begin our division unit. We will start this out by discussing important vocabulary (divisor, dividend, quotient). It is very important that students have a solid foundation of basic multiplication facts in order to be successful with division.

Report cards will go home today for 2nd semester. Please make sure to sign and return them promptly!

Have a great week!
